Best Bets for Phillies at Cubs on Sunday 4/27/25 (2025)

Zach Thompson runs through his three best bets, picks and predictions for Sunday night’s Phillies at Cubs matchup.

After a jam-packed Sunday afternoon of baseball, the Sunday night spotlight shines on the Phillies and the Cubs in Wrigley Field to close out the weekend. The two teams split the first two games in this set, with the Cubs winning 4-0 on Friday and the Phillies winning 10-4 on Saturday. The rubber game of the series starts at 7:00 p.m. ET, so let’s run down a few of my best bets, picks and predictions for Phillies at Cubs on 4/27/25.

Alternate Total Runs Over 8.5 (+102)

The pitching matchup in this game is Aaron Nola against Jameson Taillon. Both veterans have had inconsistent starts to the season, and both offenses have been very productive, so I like getting this run total to be at least nine runs as one of my Phillies-Cubs best bets.

Nola has a 6.43 ERA and 4.89 FIP in his first five outings, allowing 21 runs in 28 innings on 11 walks and 34 hits, including six homers. Taillon has a 4.73 ERA and 4.45 FIP after giving up 14 runs on 25 hits in 26 2/3 innings over his first five starts. Both starting pitchers have a barrel rate over 9%, while Nola has given up a 41.0% hard-hit rate.

On Saturday, the Phillies went over this total on their own and over the last two weeks, they have averaged 4.7 runs per game while hitting .257 as a team. The Cubs have averaged 5.4 runs per game over the last two weeks and 5.1 runs per game at home.

With above-average matchups, each offense has a good chance to explode and should be able to at least get three or four runs, even in a loss. That should be enough to push this total over nine runs.

Kyle Schwarber 2+ Total Bases (+140)

Schwarber went 1-for-4 with a double to go over this total on Saturday in Chicago. The former Cub is hitting .250 on the season with seven home runs and a .401 wOBA. He has an exceptional 55.9% hard-hit rate and 13.2% barrel rate. Most of the year, he has been slotted at cleanup after hitting leadoff much of the last few seasons.

In his career, Schwarber is 5-for-19 with a double and two home runs against Taillon. In his career, lefties have hit .257 with a .323 wOBA against Taillon, setting Schwarber up in a good matchup Sunday night.

Picking Schwarber to get 2+ extra bases as one of my Phillies-Cubs best bets means this pick will hit if he gets multiple hits or an extra-base hit in this matchup on Sunday night.

Pete Crow-Armstrong over 0.5 stolen bases (+260)

In this juicy prop, PCA is almost quadrupling your bet if he swipes a base on Sunday night. He has 12 stolen bases on the season in 13 attempts over 28 games. He stole two bases on Friday night in the first game of this series and has at least one stolen base in three of his last five contests.

The Phillies rank in the middle of the pack at limiting stolen bases, and Nola has allowed 10 stolen bases in 15 attempts over his last 159 innings. Nola has allowed two stolen bases in three attempts this season.

Crow-Armstrong is hitting .284 with a .328 OBP, and if he gets on base, he could definitely add another stolen base to his total and make this prop hit on Sunday Night Baseball.
